Hey im new here found the site off team-integra. I have a 94 LS. I just got the JRSC kit in the fall and got it on my car. But been having problems. I have horrible idle surge. When it first starts up idle shoots up to 2500 rpms and stays there until i hit the gas and then it dumps back down and shoots right back up. But then when it gets warm the idle starts going up and down and wont stop. Its like the ECU doesnt know what to do or something. But i have checked all my lines and have no leaks. I also pulled off the IACV and cleaned it out and such and that didnt help any. I also checked the bolts on holding the throttle bodie and the downpipe to the charger itself and there good. Right now this is the only thing i am havin issues with.

Motor is pretty stock just for couple bolt ons. I am running a short ram intake, Kamakazie header, and full thermal exhaust. Nothing for fuel upgrades except for a AEM fuel filter and gauge. I am also running a catch can as well. Any help would be great cause im almost tempted to start ripping stuff off and going back to stock if this is going to keep continuing. Thanks.

    - Check fuel pressure at idle- should be around 36psi.
    - Check fast idle thermo valve (FITV) functionality, there's an easy test for this (takes 10 minutes or so). I think JRCivic wrote a good post about this a couple of years back, use the search...

Well i went and searched his posts and couldnt find anything about this. Fuel pressure is around 36 at idle. I have been hearing about this thermostat where is it located?? And is it hard to replace?? Thanks

Well, I don't remember exactly what I wrote two years ago... however, here is the quick version.

Remove your intake tube so that you have access to the inlet of the throttle body. If you look inside the throttle body opening... just in front of the throttle blade (which is closed when the car is turned off and you are not messing with the throttle cable), you will see two small diameter holes in the casting... one at the 8 o'clock position and one at the 10 o'clock position. The passage at the 8 o'clock position is the inlet for the FITV (fast idle thermo valve), and the one at the 10 o'clock position is the inlet for the IACV (electronic idle air control valve).

Now, start the car. While it is running, immediately place your finger over the inlet at the 8 o'clock position. If the FITV is the problem, the car will immediately idle down to the normal cold-start range (1200-1500 rpm), and then slowly drop from there until warm. Once warm, the "hunting" idle (revs up and down in a cyclic pattern) should also disappear if you cover the FITV hole. If there is no change in the cars operation, then you must look elsewhere for the problem.

Now, try covering the IACV hole at the 10 o'clock position. If you completely cover it, the car should stall if there are no other vaccuum leaks... or idle at say 500 rpm (the first line just above the large "0" mark on your tach), however, if you slowly slide your finger over the hole from front to back, covering more and more and you go, you may be able to create a "controlled" vaccuum leak... which is essentially what the IACV does. You may have to wait until the car is warmed up before you try this test.

If the FITV is the problem, remove the cover plate off the end of the assemply by unscrewing the two 8mm headed bolts. To make it easier, you may wish to remove the throttle body for better access. Once removed, you can begin screwing the thermo valve ring back onto the plunger. Screw it all of the way in until you can turn it no more... then back it off 1/4 turn. Re-install the cover plate and bolt the throttle body back onto the gooseneck if removed.

If the IACV was the problem, replace it with a known good one to verify the fix.

    Good luck.

well I didn't read completely through what JRcivic said, and i'm sure it's on point.

But i'll add what I think you should really look into.
A vacuum leak! If you've checked your valves(fast idle, EACV) and your hoses are good.

    then check your gaskets,
    throttle body gasket
    intake manifold gasket
sc/im gasket(imbetween supercharger and intake mani).

If any of those are not sealing completely, then you will have a vacuum leak.

Think hard, are ANY of those gaskets at all suspect? If so replace them, and make sure the gasket mating surfaces are completely clean and straight. Remember to use a NEW GASKET.

YES!!!! It worked man. I put my finger over the hole of the FIT and it stopped reving up and down and idled normal. So i pulled it off and tightened it up and turned it back a 1/4 of a turn and put everything back together and tried it and it idles normal. Thanks very much for all your guys's info i am so happy right now you dont even understand lol

    OK, First thing's first...

(Said with great sarcasm) The last time I checked, an Integra was produced by a company called "Acura", not "Advance" or "AutoZone"... which means if you call "Acura", I bet you can find the parts you need for your car !!!

On a lighter note: Chances are very good that you will NOT have to replace the FITV... you will simply have to re-assemble it. The design of the part is a dumb one... and this is the reason the device was phased out of production on Civics and Integras in 1996. Unless you have been dealing with the issue for a VERY long time, you most likely will merely have to screw the plunger and cap back together as I instructed above. If you do this, and the problem still exists, then it must be replaced.

Incidentally, I just purchased a new one for the Blackbird project... I believe it cost me around $75.00... from ACURA !!!

    hehehehehehe
